Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Leavens is married to his partner in business, Becky and together they have six children, two grandchildren, seven dogs, one Maine Coon, and horses and chickens. They are members of Christs Community UMC in Joplin. Dr. Leavens, graduated from Missouri Southern in 1985 with a degree in Biology and Sociology. He also has a degree in Respiratory Therapy (and is a Registered Respiratory Therapist) from Northwestern University Medical School and graduated from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Minnesota in 1992. He practiced in a primarily dairy practice with his father-in-law for three years before moving to Joplin in 1995 to be closer to his daughter. Main Street Pet Care was started as a continuation of Dr. Gene Swansons practice at that time, with their kind support. Dr. Leavens loves applied science and animals, so Veterinary Medicine has been a great fit for his lifes work. He is active in his church, Christs Community UMC and also a Rescuer with Newton County Rescue and Recovery. He is also a member of the USDAs National Animal Emergency Response Corps (NAHERC) and the Show-Me Volunteer Veterinary Corps.
