Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Martha Ann Huck-Miller literally grew up in this practice. She is embarrassed that some of her clients may have even changed her diapers. Her love for horses was as many put it, "an inherited disease." She began her riding career on a miniature Sicilian donkey, named Bonkey, who still lives at the clinic. As she got bigger, she began riding an old pony named Dusty. When Becky bought the pony, Dr. Huck said, "That old thing won't live long enough to teach Martha Ann anything." Lucky for everyone, she did; and she taught Martha Ann a lot. Boy, Hes Outrageous was Martha Anns next equine friend. He carried her on trail rides, in 4-H drill team and finally, to a TWHBEA Versatility Championship, the first of six that she was to win. The TWHBEA awarded Dancing Spirit, a weanling filly, to Martha Ann as the prize for her first championship. This horse became a versatility champion herself and still lives today on Marthas farm. Walking Horses provided Martha Ann with much more than blue ribbons. She gave riding lessons and conducted clinics for local children and adults, using the money she earned to pay for her education at Southeast Missouri State University, and to buy her first car. Her life with horses, at the clinic, in the show ring and on the trails taught Martha the first, essential knowledge a veterinarian must have: what is normal. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree in microbiology at Southeast Missouri State University in 2004. Then she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree at the University of Missouri in 2008. After graduating from Mizzou, Dr. Martha moved to Colorado where she completed a yearlong internship at one of the most prestigious equine clinics in the world, Littleton Equine Medical Center. Here, Dr. Martha received advanced training in emergency care, internal medicine, surgery, lameness, ophthalmology, diagnostic imaging, anesthesia and field service. Her special interests include ophthalmology, gastrointestinal disease, abdominal ultrasound, wellness/preventive medicine, and client education. She is a member of American Association of Equine Practitioners, American Veterinary Medical Association, Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, International Equine Ophthalmology Consortium. She is licensed for veterinary practice in Missouri, Illinois and Colorado. Dr. Martha attended Parker university in Dallas Texas in 2014 and earned her certification by the American veterinary chiropractic Association. Dr. Martha and her husband Robbie Miller, a team roper, own a small farm near Friedheim, which they share with Dancing Spirit, the foal she won in her first versatility championship, as well as a Robbies two roping horses and his blue heeler, Molly. Rudy, her Boston terrier, follows the tradition of all Huck dogs and accompanies her to work, where he is the clinics official greeter. When she can get away from the clinic, the couple enjoy spending time with family and friends, trail riding, going to team roping events, team sorting (on Dancing Spirit!), snow skiing, snorkeling and sipping sweet Missouri wine.
