Dr. Airhart was born in McKinney, Texas and was reared on a farm in Collin County. For a person with his varied interests a farm is the perfect place to grow up, surrounded by nature from the very big to the very small, all sorts of animals, machinery, crops and all the wonders little boys can find outdoors. About any animal you can name he has lived with closely.After grade school in Melissa, Texas he transferred to McKinney High School where he graduated with numerous honors, including a football scholarship to Texas A&M University. College years were extremely busy with academics. He received several awards including a National Science Foundation grant in biochemistry, and he managed to earn BS and DVM degrees in five years.Following college was the U.S. Army at Ft. Dietrich, Maryland, part of Walter Reed Army Medical Center, doing research in pathology and microbiology related to biological warfare. While in the service he did postdoctoral studies at the National Institute of Health and the Armed Force Institute of Pathology. He chose to leave research and entered private practice in Ft. Worth for a year and a half and then moved to Mesquite, Texas and founded the Town East Animal Hospital.Dr. Airhart is married and has four children and four grandchildren. He has been an active part of the community for many years. Hobbies and activities include sports, reading, flying, collecting cars, gardening, music, art, gourmet dining, church activities, politics and the American Heart Association.He has memberships in AVMA, Board of Directors for TVMA, DCVMA, Rotary and Texas A&M Association of Former Students.He thinks he has the best job in the world, getting to know many good people while trying to do good for friends, both human and animal. He comments "Here at the practice we see folks who care enough to spend time and money on animals. By definition that makes our clients caring, nice people. Where else could a person enjoy the challenge of diagnoses and treatment and experience the satisfaction of successful outcomes"?Doctor Airhart will occasionally be out of the office due to continuing education commitments.Talk to Dr. Airhart about his many and varied interests and you will realize he truly loves life.
