Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Anita Laras journey to become a veterinarian started as a young girl who loved science and animals. A visit to her local veterinarian became the turning point when she was offered a summer position at that clinic. This opportunity showed her the many aspects of veterinary medicine that followed a pets life from kitten/puppy hood through the final good-bye. Dr. Lara earned her Bachelor's degree in Zoology at Fresno State before heading off to vet school at UC Davis. While at Davis, a spark of interest in feline medicine grew through her classes and activities with the Feline Medicine Club. She completed her DVM degree in 1996 and immediately started in a small animal practice in Carmel, CA. There she recognized that the cat cases were the ones that fueled her passion. In 2002, she moved to Sacramento and started her feline only career as an associate veterinarian at the Veterinary Practice Limited to Cats (River City Cat Clinic). After a brief hiatus at another cat only practice, she is very happy to be back at River City Cat Clinic. Dr Lara brings over 15 years of feline only experience helping clients keep their cats healthy and happy. When not at work, she enjoys gardening, paper-crafting, and spending time with family, friends and her two cats- Emmy and Sesame.
