Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Beth Kirby is a 1984 graduate of Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine here in Blacksburg. Her first job took her all the way to Troutville to a mixed practice and she returned to Blacksburg in June 1986 for small animal practice at Companion. Her interests are feline medicine and surgery, behavior and human-animal bond.
Dr. KirbyÍs interests include cooking, gardening, and playing with her critters. An avid Hokie tailgater- the staff enjoys her leftovers on Mondays.
In her spare time, Dr. Kirby volunteers with D.A.W.G.S. (Dogs Assisting With Grade Schoolers)a reading assistance program at Kipps Elementary. Her best pup Chigger (pictured) is her assistant with the kids. She also visits with both dogs Chigger and DanDan at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salem. DanDan hopes to someday go the elementary school, but he is a bit too wiggly to sit quietly for an hour at a time.
Dr. Kirby has recently become a certified Master Gardener through Virginia Cooperative Extension. Her main interests are working with children to encourage gardening and healthy eating and providing overflow from her garden for area food pantries. She is a volunteer leader with the 4-H group Junior Master Gardeners.
She lives on a farm in McCoy with her husband Tom; 2 dogs, 4 cats and 4 horses.
