Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Pamela Austin is the new owner and Chief of Staff of Westbury Veterinary Clinic. She and her husband, Eric, moved to Summerville in early 2014 and purchased Westbury from longtime owners Drs. Glen and Susan Haynes. Dr. Austin intends not only to honor, but to advance the legacy of excellent care and compassion that community members have come to rely on from this trusted local institution. Dr. Austin grew up in a small town in Western New York. Her passion for helping animals began at a young age as she nursed her own dogs and cats through a variety of minor illnesses. By the time she was 10, Dr. Austin was set on becoming a veterinarian. After graduating with her BS from the State University of New York at Fredonia, Dr. Austin went on to earn an MS from The University of Rochester and her DVM from The Ohio State University. Upon graduation Dr. Austin spent the first few years of her career in Columbus, OH practicing emergency medicine and surgery. Emergency medicine was an excellent training ground for Dr. Austin as it offered a diverse caseload and allowed her to develop strong client communication skills. After four years of long overnight shifts in the emergency room Dr. Austin decided it was time for a change of pace and accepted a position with an established and well-respected feline clinic where she remained until very recently. During her free time Dr. Austin served on the board of directors for the Columbus humane group Cat Welfare Association. Becoming a practice owner was an important goal for Dr. Austin and she spent three years looking for just the right opportunity. After spending so many years in the cool northern weather Dr. Austin and her husband were also seeking warmer climes. Once they found Westbury, a top quality veterinary clinic located in sunny Summerville SC, the search was over. Dr. Austin is excited to build on the already wide range of services offered at Westbury. She is particularly interested in behavioral medicine, urinary tract disease and dentistry. Dr. Austin also has a strong interest in pain control and management for both acute and chronic conditions that affect the quality of life of our pets. Dr. Austin is a member of AVMA, SCAV, AAHA and the AAFP.
