Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Suzy Shannon grew up in North Carolina but came to the Lowcountry regularly to visit relatives who lived in Charleston. She graduated from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before receiving her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University. There, she received the American Association of Feline Practitioners Student Award and the Nestle Purina Award for Excellence in Companion Animal Nutrition. After graduation, Dr. Shannon worked at a small animal practice in Mt. Pleasant. She was fortunate to work with knowledgeable veterinarians who shared their years of experience with her. Dr. Shannon then moved to San Diego, CA where she continued to work as a veterinarian. Working on the West Coast enriched her knowledge of veterinary medicine by allowing her to practice in a different area of the country and at different veterinary facilities. After a couple of years she realized she missed the Lowcountry and her family. Dr. Shannon moved back to start Sweetgrass Animal Hospital and fulfill her goal of providing quality veterinary medicine to cats and dogs in a non-stressful environment. Dr. Shannon has two, Lilly and Bellina, who she adopted from the cat blood donor program at N.C. States veterinary school. Her professional special interests include dentistry, internal medicine, behavior, and soft tissue surgery. She is excited about meeting you and your pets!
