Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Wellens is medical director of Queen Village Animal Hospital. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. In 1980, he opened Queen Village Animal Hospital at 417 Bainbridge Street in Philadelphia. In 1988, he broke ground and built a state of the art building which became the new home of Queen Village Animal Hospital at 323 Bainbridge Street. A born and bred Philadelphian, Dr. Wellens has been practicing in Queen Village for over 30 years. He has done everything from internal medicine to orthopedics. He has a no-nonsense practical approach to the art of medicine and uses his experience and keen skills to come up with the best result for the pet and the owner. He was the first veterinarian in the area to introduce the regular use of ultrasound exams and digital x-rays. Dr. Wellens has a particular passion for challenging medical cases. He enjoys introducing new veterinary technology to Queen Village Animal Hospital. Dr. Wellens is President of the Burket-Plack Foundation. Burket-Plack is a Philadelphia-based non-profit foundation that donates money to animal welfare groups.
