The 10yr Anniversary of this jackass blinding my dog and lying about it. Please excuse the long post, but here are my notes as to what took place since JD had his cataract surgery. On March 24 2014, I had a consultation with Dr Stephen Gross, Vet Ophthalmology at Metropolitan. 2626 Van Buren Ave., Norristown, PA 19403 (610) 666-1050 It was determined that my dog JD had cataracts and he was a great candidate for surgery. I was told that having surgery he would have a 90% chance of having 80-100% of his vision back. I was told that all I had to do was have JD take a CBC/Chem screen blood test and if everything looked good, he’ll have his surgery the following Wednesday April 2, 2014. Prior to having surgery, JD was an extremely playful dog who had lost a lot of his vision from the cataracts but still managed to make his way up and down the steps in our house, loved going for walks around the neighborhood and enjoyed playing with his toys for hours. Since the surgery, JD hasn’t been able to see, hasn’t wanted to go near his toys and can’t go for a walk because he just panics from not being able to see. He walks around like a pinball bouncing off all the walls from not seeing and his quality of life has completely deteriorated. I’ve been pumping him full of eye drops throughout the day as well as antibiotic pills, pain pills and prednisone pills. He has also started to lose the fur on his back, which can be caused from the amount of stress he’s under as well as the steroids. I’ve been back to see Dr Gross each after the surgery for follow up and I keep being told that it’s going to take time because JD has a lot of swelling in his eyes still and I should keep giving him drops. That he is improving and everything looks good during the examination. After 25 days of no progress whatsoever, I decided to call around and find another Dr for a second opinion. On Monday April 28 2014, I called Veterinary Referral Center in Malvern, 340 Lancaster Ave, Malvern, PA 19355 (610) 647-8594 to see if they have an Ophthalmologist on staff and can I come in for an appointment for JD. After I explained what JD has been going through, they told me to come right over. I met with Dr Brady Beale and one of the first things she asked me was an Ultrasound completed of JD’s eyes prior to surgery? I said no and she seem surprised. Once she performed the Ultrasound, with me in the room, she showed me that JD has a lot of scaring from the inflammation caused from the surgery and retinal detachment. She told me that JD will most likely never see again and that at this point she wants to treat him to help him with all the pain he is in and to bring down the inflammation. I’m extremely upset about two things, first that Dr Gross keeps stringing me along and second that he never performed an ultrasound prior to doing the surgery because if there was a chance that there was retinal damage from the cataracts and a chance that JD will never see again any way, I never would have put JD through so much pain and suffering as well as paid at this point $6,000. Dr Gross led me on to believe that having surgery was best for JD and took complete advantage of me. I’ll use the analogy of when a loved one dies and you go to the funeral home, the first thing they do is express their condolences before showing you the most expenses coffin they sell. Another words, he saw how upset I was and how I wanted the best for JD and had me hook, line and sinker. I had my 4th follow up visit with Dr Gross Monday May 5th. During this meeting, I asked why an Ultra Sound wasn't ordered by him to check JD's eyes prior to surgery, especially when Dr Beale said this is something that is expected to be done to make sure the cataracts haven't caused scarring or retinal damage. Because if that were the case, I never would have gone through with this and subjected JD to the suffering he’s in now. "His answer to me was that he didn't think it needed to be done" My response was by not doing the Ultra Sound, we had no idea if all the damage in his eyes were caused before the surgery or if you caused all the damage now for him to go blind. He then brought up Dr Beale and proceeded to bash her about not performing surgery on older dogs and he does all the surgeries she won't. What I've learned here is Dr Beale is a true professional and looks out for her dogs/patients interest. Dr Beale is responsible and spends time educating the dog’s owners on the downside and negative effects of performing cataract surgery. Unlike Dr Gross who is reckless and is nothing more than a sales person trying to close a deal. I asked Dr Gross why he didn't review any of the downsides and negative problems that can occur by doing this surgery vs only painting a perfect picture by telling me over and over that JD is a great candidate for the surgery and he should do just fine because there is a 90% success rate that JD would regain 100% of his vision. Dr Gross's reply to me "I'll tell you what my shoulder surgeon said to me when after my surgery and my shoulder still hurt, sorry" At this time I really wanted to knock this guy on his ass for making like it isn't a big deal that he completely has failed as a so called Dr. After putting a call into Dr Gross Monday May 12, he called me on Tuesday night. We exchanged a few words and he admitted to me that he chose not to do a step during the procedure while JD was under that would have eliminated most of the inflammation. He didn’t want to do this because of JD being 14yrs old. Yet again proving that Dr Gross is completely reckless and unprofessional for not telling me all the risk involved with this type of surgery. I realize I can’t sue for pain and suffering but I should be able to sue him for all the reckless stupidity that has caused JD to go blind and not sharing with me all that could happen prior to the surgery. Dr Gross agreed to send me a check for what I paid for the surgery. But that’s not enough and I want to sue him for more because he owed me a Professional Duty of Care that wasn't delivered to me and I should be protected as a consumer. As well as report him to the PA Vet Board and blast him all over social media so others know not to use this reckless dr and two so that if ever faced with this situation, they know the correct questions to ask. I have a lots of paperwork to back up everything I’ve written. Thank you for taking the time to read

I will never forget the kindness and care Dr. Gross gave Flurry our Westie. We have not seen him in many years but I can recommend him.
