Veterinarian Overview
Dr Lais is a born and raised Oregonian. When she was a child her parents said that she could get feral cats and wild rabbits to come up to her. She seemed to have an instant bond with all animals, so it didnt surprise them when she went off to college to get a bachelors degree in Zoology, and then continued on to graduate from Oregon State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. In college she volunteered for Feral Cat Coalition, Heartland Humane Society and Pro-Bone O. During vet school she joined the International Veterinary Students Association and traveled down to Nicaragua twice to perform exams, treatments and surgeries on pets that had no access to veterinary services. She is currently licensed in Oregon and is a member of the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA)andtheAmericanVeterinaryMedicalAssociation(AVMA).Her first four years of veterinary work were spent at both a small animal practice in Coos Bay where she workeddaysandafterhoursemergencywork, andatasmallanimal practice in Tigard. She joined Compassionate Care because she has been on the front lines not only with the loss of her clients beloved pets, but she was alsorecently the primary caregiver at end of life for someone very near and dear to her heart. She understands the heartache of suffering and feels that being able to let go and say goodbye in the comfort of home with dignity is so important. Her biggest reason for deciding to become a vet was first and foremost to relieve suffering. She loved working in a clinic setting, but felt that the love, compassion and understanding she held inside for those going through loss would be better suited for a service like Compassionate Care.In her free time, Dr Lais enjoys live music or playing with her 3 cats: Squee, Juno and BW. Juno and BW were feral cats that she saved from euthanasia and tamed to bequite the social and sweet felines that they are today. Squee is her spoiled little man who acts more like a dog than a cat, following her around and talking a lot! Otheractivities that she enjoys are hiking, road trips, camping, playing Frisbee and spending time with family and friends any chance she gets. Her motto in lifeisGratitude,Gratitude, Love!
