Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Trey Schutrumpf grew up in Virginia and attended college at Virginia Tech. While he was fond of the warmer climate at Veterinary School at the University of Florida, he found he was truly passionate about studying the heart. He reluctantly left the Sunshine state for Cornell University and a rotating internship. In the chilly climate of upstate New York he met his other true love, his wife, as she was completing her veterinary training. Dr. Schutrumpf finished his internship, worked for a year as an emergency doctor in Washington D.C. and then headed to the Midwest for a residency in cardiology at the University of Missouri.Dr. Schutrumpf became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology) in 2010. He has spent the past four years as staff cardiologist at Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital. He recently relocated to Portland to reestablish the Cardiology Service at VCA Northwest Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Schutrumpf is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hiking and camping, as well as exploring Portland with his wife and five (yes, five) dogs.
