Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Elizabeth Barnes joined the team at Veterinary Care of Ithaca in February 2009. Dr. Barnes grew up in southern California and later Illinois, where her family raised sheep. "As silly as it sounds I wanted to be a veterinarian as soon as I could say the word," says Dr. Barnes. She attended Northwestern University for her undergraduate work in molecular biology/neuro-biology, and earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana, graduating valedictorian. Dr. Barnes is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. Her professional interests include geriatric medicine, surgery, dentistry and general veterinary medicine. At home, Dr. Barnes has two cows: Crumb, a Swiss steer and Morsel, a Swiss heifer. She also has a mixed breed dog named Fern and 14 hens. Dr. Barnes enjoys cycling, gardening, hiking and traveling in her free time.
