Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Kates grew up in the Catskill Mountain region of New York State before attending Cornell University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in 1978 and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1981. After graduation, Dr. Kates worked for a short time at Arlington National Park in Chicago on Thoroughbred racehorses. In September 1981, he joined the predecessor of what is today Colts Neck Equine Associates as an associate veterinarian before becoming an owner and managing partner in 1983. Dr. Kates practice consists mostly of harness race horses with a focus on lameness and other performance related problems. He is also available on a consultation basis for hunter/jumper and other performance horse lameness problems within the practice. In his spare time, Dr. Kates enjoys breeding, raising, and racing harness horses, coaching youth basketball and playing golf.
