Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Melissa Dudley was born in Dover, NH and attended the University of New Hampshire, graduating with her Bachelors degree in zoology in 1988. After UNH she attended the University of Minnesota where she earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1992. She completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Angell Memorial Animal Hospital in Boston in 1993. Having developed a passion for surgery she continued her education with a surgical residency from the University of Illinois in 1997 obtaining her board certification in surgery.During her residency, Dr. Dudleys research was primarily in the biology and management of complex orthopedic injuries, including fracture management and joint pathology. She also had a special interest in surgical oncology. After her residency, Dr. Dudley was the surgeon at Bath-Brunswick Veterinary Hospital in Maine. She then partnered with VCA Northboro Animal Hospital in Massachusetts. For the next sixteen years she enjoyed the challenge of developing and growing a new, now thriving, surgical practice. Dr. Dudley is now happy to return to her home state of New Hampshire joining the team at VCA C.A.V.E.S. to provide excellent specialty care for her patients.Dr. Dudley enjoys all aspects of small animal surgery including but not limited to: cruciate suture stabilization, TPLO, TTA, fracture repair, oncologic surgery portosystemic shunts, liver and lung lobectomies, perineal urethrostomies, subtotal colectomy, adrenalectomy, cholescytectomy to name a few.In her free time Dr. Dudley enjoys hiking in the White Mountains with her better half Charlie (he is an excellent cook), training for triathlons and her family. She loves her quirky dog Star Bunny Dudley and spends a significant amount of time at home officiating disagreements between her blended family of cats, Mickey, Jack, Lily, and Buster Bunny.
