Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Patrick Allen was born and raised here in Cambridge, MD and developed his interest for veterinary medicine early in life. His first experience working in a veterinary hospital was actually spent here at Choptank Animal Hospital. Drs. Burgwin and McCoy were both instrumental in leading him into a veterinary career. After completing an undergraduate degree at Virginia Tech he attended the Atlantic Veterinary College at University of Prince Edward Island, Canada. Following graduation in 2005 he performed a 1 year small animal internal medicine and surgery internship at the Chesapeake Veterinary Referral Center. In 2006 he entered private practice and spent the 10 years prior to his arrival at Choptank Animal Hospital working in the Washington, DC and Baltimore regions. One of his primary interests in veterinary medicine has been orthopedic surgery which led him to establishing an orthopedic presence at all of the hospitals he has had an affiliation with during his career. He has extensive training and experience with advanced repairs for cruciate ligament injuries (TTA and TPLO) as well as with the most current techniques in fracture repair. In addition to the joy of helping your pets live happy and healthy lives, Dr. Allen truly enjoys the personal relationships he has developed with clients and their pets through the years. Outside of work, Dr. Allen enjoys life on the shore with his wife (the other Dr. Allen) and two children, Kaylee and Kellan. Dr. Allen has been extensively involved with the triathlon community over the last few years and recently completed Ironman Maryland here in Cambridge
