Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Alfred G. Stevens was born and raised in Winnfield, a rural town in North Louisiana. Raised on a cattle farm, his desire to become a veterinarian began at a very young age. Dr. Stevens attended Louisiana State University as an undergraduate with an emphasis on Veterinary Medicine and was accepted into the newly formed Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine as the third official class. He graduated in 1979. After Dr. Stevens second year of veterinary school he married Susan Granzin, the daughter of Dr. O.C. Bob Granzin. Upon graduation, he joined Dr. Granzin at Sherwood South Animal Hospital and has become a fixture in the veterinary community over the years. He served as president of the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, the LSU Veterinary Alumni Association, and the Baton Rouge Area Veterinary Medical Association. He has also had the privilege of receiving the Louisiana Veterinarian of the Year award. In his spare time, Dr. Stevens serves as an adjunct instructor of veterinary dentistry at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. He is also the veterinary dentist for the zoo animals at the famous Audubon Zoo in New Orleans. He is a member of the AVMA, LVMA, BRAVMA, and the American Veterinary Dental Society. Dr. Stevens has several special interests, which include dentistry, endoscopy, ultrasound, and orthopedic surgery. He enjoys teaching Sunday School and as a Christian, puts God at the forefront of his life. He resides with his wife Susan and their dogs Ruger (Boxer) and Ellie Mae (Terrier mix) and cats Isis, Willis and Tadpole. On Sept 12, 2007, Dr. Stevens welcomed his first grandchild, Carter Anthony Stevens, son of Chad and Jodie Stevens in September of 2007. Carla, his daughter, was married to Adam Thompson in 2008.
