Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Michelle Herlihy graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. She completed her animal chiropractic education at Options for Animals in 1998 and maintains active certification through the American Veterinary Chiropractic Association (AVCA). Although she completed her acupuncture training at the Chi Institute in Florida while simultaneously working in rehabilitation at TOPS in 1999 and 2000, she no longer practices acupuncture, as chiropractic is her one true love and tends to occupy all her time! Dr. Herlihy has over 20 years experience with traditional and alternative veterinary medicine. In 2008, she focused her energy to create PAWSitively Balanced, Ltd., a veterinary practice devoted to laser therapy, aquatreadmill therapy and chiropractic care for dogs and cats. Dr. Herlihy resides in Downers Grove with her 2 teenage kids, Crash the cat, Crooked the Border Collie, Niall the cockatiel, Gilbert the parakeet, a tank full of gluttonous goldfish, and at any given time... a variety of foundlings or rescues in need of temporary homes... giant american water bugs, preying mantis, mice, bunnies, chipmunks, turtles, frogs, birds, snakes and whatever else the kids bring home (except the bat, which they were NOT allowed to nurse back to health!) Dr. Herlihy takes a personal approach to her care for your pets, taking the time to get to know and understand each patient as if they were a pet of her own. Dr. Herlihys hobbies include her work, gardening and working out as much as possible. Several of her work outs involve extreme sports such as snowboarding and aerial pole fitness. She can truly relate to those dogs that have no respect for their bodies. Dr. Herlihy's personal motto is "Work hard, Play harder, but know a good chiropractor." Although she no longer practices traditional medicine, Dr. Herlihy believes in an integrated approach to veterinary healthcare to provide maximum benefit for the health and healing of each individual. She is delighted to work with your primary care veterinarian or multiple specialists to promote a long and happy life for your pet.
