Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Brian Rooney has been with Burr Ridge Veterinary Clinic since 1987 and he became a partner in 1991. He grew up in Evanston with his 6 brothers and sisters, including an identical twin. As a child and teenager, Dr. Rooney had some non-traditional pets due to family allergies. His household was home to bunnies, guinea pigs, and several reptiles, including a large python and a boa constrictor. Dr. Rooney attended the University of Illinois for undergrad as well as vet school. That is also where he met his wife, Karen, whom he married in 1984. Together they have 2 beautiful daughters and, like his childhood family, animal allergies have plagued the Rooney family, so pets have included turtles and a parrot. In 2012, however, with their children away at college, Dr. Rooney and Karen welcomed a cat who was abandoned outside the clinic into their family and named him Pierre. Pierre was found with a chronic, painful eye injury which required the eye to be removed, but the Rooneys feel his one eye makes him special and more loveable. In practice, Dr. Rooney has a special interest in dentistry, behavior, internal medicine and cardiology. He has served as a volunteer on the executive board of the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association and has volunteered with the CVMA Pet Loss Helpline since 1997. Outside of work, he is very involved with his church and has worked with their senior high youth group since 1996. His personal interests include baking and cooking, especially grilling, and working in his garden and backyard pond.
