Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Colleen Currigan is the founder of Cat Hospital of Chicago. Before becoming a veterinarian, Dr. Currigan graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from St. Mary's College/Notre Dame. She earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in Columbus, Ohio.Born and raised in Denver, Colorado, Dr. Currigan has practiced her entire cat-exclusive veterinary career in Chicago. From 1993 through 1998 Dr. Currigan operated her own feline homecare practice. She relocated to the Chicago area after veterinary school to practice at one of the few cat-exclusive veterinary practices in the country at that time.Dr. Currigan's desire to work with felines was influenced by her family's love of cats—especially her Dad—and her feline pets, Sparky and Midnight, that were an integral part of her childhood (there were also dogs, turtles, rabbits, hamsters, and briefly even a duck).Dr. Currigan serves on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), where she's been appointed the president for the 2016 year. She is also an active member of the AAFP's Cat Friendly Practice Committee. Dr. Currigan serves as board chair on the Tree House Humane Society board of directors. She is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the Chicago Veterinary Medical Association, the American Animal Hospital Association, and the Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association.Dr. Currigan is an avid sports fan. She follows the Denver Broncos, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, the Chicago White Sox, and the Chicago Blackhawks. She enjoys Chicago art and street festivals, Chicago city life, Colorado skiing, bicycling, mountain hiking, entertaining, and traveling. She relishes quiet evenings at home with her rescue cats Dennis the Menace (pictured here with Dr. Currigan) and Tracey.
