Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Melissa Ferry Melissa has been with Lakeside Veterinary Care since October of 2018 as an emergency veterinarian. She grew up near Buffalo, NY (Go Bills!) and went to college in PA. Veterinary school at THE Ohio State University and a one year internship in Avian/Exotics Medicine. She stayed in Columbus, OH for another 5 years doing avian/exotic medicine and emergency medicine before moving to Missouri. She took a job where she liked the people the best you spend a lot of time at work and she wanted to enjoy the time she spent there! Melissa began working in the veterinary industry because of her enjoyment of helping people combined with her love of animals. Veterinary medicine is a people profession, and she loves educating her clients about their pets and how to care for them. Over the course of her career, she has become a member of the AAV (Association of Avian Vets), AEMV (Association of Exotic Mammal Vets), ARAV (Association of reptile and amphibian). She is also a consulting veterinarian for the St. Louis Aquarium opening in the winter of 2019! Her furry family consists of a 4 year old pitbull, Betsey Johnson who comes to work on the weekends, and 4 cats who range between shy and crazy. In her spare time, she plays the clarinet and has played sporadically in groups back in Ohio after vet school. She volunteers to help with elderly, specifically hospice and those with Alzheimers which she has been involved with since high school.
