Veterinarian Overview
Since childhood Dr. Angie Kirkwood wanted to become a veterinarian. "I have always loved animals, medicine and science," she says. Originally from southern Illinois, Dr. Kirkwood earned her bachelor's degree in veterinary biosciences from the University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign. While there, she made the Dean's List and was a member of the Golden Key International Honor Society and the Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society. She earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine.Dr. Kirkwood is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Illinois State Veterinary Medical Association, and the Lake County Veterinary Society. Her professional interests include client education, internal medicine and behavior. She joined Barrington Animal Hospital in May 2014.Dr. Kirkwood and her husband Wes have two sons, Brandon and Trevor. The family has four pets: Buddy the rescue beagle and three sweet rescue cats, Kastrina, Tiki and Kapalua. Outside work, Dr. Kirkwood enjoys being the biggest fan at all of her sons' sports, music and school activities as well as hiking, reading and horseback riding
