Veterinarian Overview
Growing up in Rochester, New York as the daughter of a small animal veterinarian, Dr. Harris learned early that working with animals was something she wanted to do long-term. "As a young girl, I loved going with my dad to the animal hospital to 'help' him administer treatments to his patients. The animal hospital was literally a place where I grew up. I cannot imagine doing anything else!" she said.Dr. Harris further developed her affinity for animals and medicine while working at her father's hospital as a kennel attendant and eventually as an animal care assistant. During her college years, she gained more diverse experiences by working at the emergency clinic, volunteering at the local zoo, and shadowing an equine vetDr. Harris earned her bachelor's degree in animal science from Cornell University in 2004 and was the 2003 and 2004 recipient of the Cornell Scholastic Achievement Award awarded by the American Society of Animal Science. She was also an active member of the cross-country ski team and Cornell Companions, a pet therapy club. Dr. Harris received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. During her veterinary studies, Dr. Harris received the 2007 Pfizer Veterinary Scholarship Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement and the 2008 Pfizer Award for Excellence and Clinical Proficiency in Emergency and Critical Care.Dr. Harris has been working as a general practitioner at Jones Bridge Animal Hospital since June, 2008. Forming bonds with pet owners and their "furry family members" is the aspect of veterinary medicine that Dr. Harris appreciates most. "I enjoy getting to know my patients and clients on a personal basis." Professionally, Dr. Harris' interests include: feline medicine, dentistry, and ophthalmology. She is currently a member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners and the American Veterinary Medical Association.Outside of work, Dr. Harris enjoys spending time with her husband, Eric, their dogs Lucy and Norma Jean, and two orange tabby cats Bocephus and Mr. Pancake. In her spare time, you can find her running on the greenway with Lucy.
