Veterinarian Overview

I grew up on a cattle farm that was located on the state lines of Georgia and Alabama. My parents still operate this farm and even though my children, Trey, Nancy, Grace and Ella are “city kids”, we still love going home and getting back to nature. As a young girl, I always had a special love for animals and there was always a menagerie of them around. The family pets of course were predominantly dogs, cats, and horses but my brother and I also enjoyed raising rabbits. However, cattle made up the greatest population of animals. In high school, I began showing cattle in the 4-H program. My senior year I had the great honor of showing the top Simmental Steer in the state of Alabama which was a product of my family’s farm. Even though I dreamed of being a veterinarian, I guess I just didn’t have the confidence to pursue that dream, so I attended Auburn University and graduated with a finance degree. After working in the banking industry for 5 years, I realized that what I really wanted to do was return to my roots and work with animals. I enrolled again at Auburn University in the College of Agriculture and began working on a second degree in Animal and Dairy Science. It was during the next 2 years that I finally realized exactly what I wanted to do and I applied to the College of Veterinary Medicine and was accepted. The next 4 years were the most challenging but rewarding times of my life. Although I still have a love for large animals, the small animals won my heart. However, that is not all that won my heart during Vet School. It was there that I met my husband Chad who was in the class behind me. After graduation in 1999, I moved to the Atlanta area and began work in private practice. It was early in my career that I realized I had a talent for surgery. For the past 10 years I have cultivated that talent and I enjoy soft tissue and orthopedic surgery as well.Chad graduated a year later and we were married in November of 2001. We both continued to work in private day practice and emergency night practice until December of 2004 when we opened Johns Creek Veterinary Clinic. Since then our love for veterinary medicine has grown much deeper as we have gotten to know our patients and clients as friends.
