Veterinarian Overview
"Dr. Mike" grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Maryland, her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (Virginia Tech) in 1996, and completed a Small Animal Medicine and Surgery Internship at the University of Missouri-Columbia Veterinary Teaching Hospital (Mizzou) in 1997. Furthermore, she is a graduate of the NAVC Institute in Feline Medicine for three completed terms of study.Cat Care of Vinings was designed as a sanctuary for cats---"even the most nervous and anxious of breeds can be attended to here no matter how serious the condition." She believes cats require special emotional support in addition to traditional, species-specific medical care.As veterinarians, we may have contributed to many misconceptions about cat-specific diseases, their emotional needs, and most definitely, their nutrition and metabolism. We've assumed cats are just like any other pet and have educated owners to see them this way...Cat Care of Vinings is a place where cats can be treated and handled with dignity and specific attention to their unique physiology and psyche.I am constantly in awe at the incredible dedication our clients demonstrate in their care decisions for their cats. A cat is a sacred soul mate in my home and our owners show me just how this happens for them too. As well, our employees are incredibly dedicated to what we do. I am inspired by their efforts to make every cat and every visit the best it can possibly be, no matter how sick or serious the situation
and I think, though sometimes the cats experience stress, somewhere they know we are not the enemy.Dr. Mike feels these animals did not ask to be here and definitely did no ask for the abuses and neglect they may have endured. Those good Samaritans with charitable hearts who rescue and recover these animals should always have special veterinarians and facilities like Cat Care of Vinings to support their efforts.Dr. Mike's personal interests include working with others to improve the quality of life for feral animals, pets and even wildlife refuge. Cat Care was designed and structured fiscally to dedicate a consistent percentage of revenue to ongoing care and rehabilitation for animals via local and international charitable organizations and service time in practice.Dr. Mike is highly committed to community and personal service to other; she feels it is an essential part of a complete and balanced life. One of her favorite reflections was spoken many years go by Winston Churchill:You make a living by what you earn; you make a life by what you give.
