Dr. Frank A. Bonsack has been working as a veterinarian in the Tampa area since 1972. During that time, he ran his own small animal veterinary practice for 36 years. From 1959-1962, he was in the military (U.S. Army). In the army, he was a helicopter mechanic and held a secret clearance. After three years in the Army, he decided to leave the military and return to Florida. He received an honorable discharge and a good conduct medal. In 1963, after his military service, Dr. Bonsack became an engineering aid for Sperry Gyroscope at Cape Canaveral, FL, retrieving classified data from Polaris submarines in port. In the next subsequent years, he achieved his Bachelor of Science Degree at University of Florida, then attended Auburn University’s School of Veterinary Medicine and attained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree in 1972. While in Veterinary school at Auburn, he received the American Veterinary Medical Association Research Scholarship (K9 Epilepsy and EEG Recording), and also worked with Dr. Richard Redding as the electroencephalographic technician at Auburn Small Animal Clinic. Since acquiring his DVM degree, he has worked as a veterinarian in the Tampa area, taught animal hospital technicians at St. Petersburg Junior College, worked and trained with Ann Evans, a certified rodentologist who was trained in England, specializing in guinea pigs, and taken a multitude of other seminars. Dr. Bonsack has also participated annually for many years in the Great American Teach-In at local elementary schools. He has the highest respect for all animals, which is demonstrated in his working with them. His knowledge and experience are vast and extensive. Small animals (pocket pets), including exotics, are a special interest of his. Aside from his career, Dr. Bonsack is married and has three children and four grandchildren. Some of his interests and hobbies he thoroughly enjoys are orchids and landscaping, woodworking, and traveling-including to Disney World, which inspired his impeccable Donald Duck impersonation!
