Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Rachel Kelly Klemawesch is a double alumnus of Auburn University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in German before being awarded a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1996. She completed a preceptorship with Dr. Don Harris, a renowned avian specialist in Miami, then spent the first several years of her veterinary career working in a group of small animal hospitals in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area. She worked in Gulf Breeze as a Medical Director, then she transferred to Tampa/St. Petersburg. Dr. Klemawesch enjoys internal medicine, soft tissue surgery, emergency medicine, and pain management and also has a passion for animal behavior. She is a graduate of the North American Veterinary Post Graduate Institutes Intermediate and Advanced Animal Behavior Programs and has been helping pets within hospitals and on a referral basis since 2006. Dr. Klemawesch is a recipient of the Florida Veterinary Medical Associations (FVMA) 2015 Gold Star Award. Every year, the FVMA awards organization members for their outstanding work to advance veterinary medicine, animal health, and the bond between humans and animals. The Gold Star Award recognizes those who have dedicated a great deal of their time and energy to the organization and to local veterinary associations. Previously, Dr. Klemawesch was president of the Pinellas County Veterinary Medical Association. Currently, she is the District 4 Representative on the FVMA and is on the Pinellas Animal Foundations board of directors, as well as the Animal Welfare Committee. Outside veterinary medicine, Dr. Klemawesch enjoys spending time with family and friends, and loves to read. She and her husband have two little girls, and three dogs: two Chihuahuas named Doody and Luna, Ferris a rat terrier/Italian greyhound mix; and Green Wing Macaw Elmo.
