Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Thora Powers joined the Central Broward Animal Hospital team in June 2006. Born in Little Rock, Arkansas to a father in the Marine Corps, she was raised in various locales, including Iceland and Hawaii.Driven by her love of animals and her desire to help them live happy, healthy lives, Dr. Powers earned her Bachelor of Science degrees in Animal Science, Microbiology and Cell Science from the University of Florida. She went on to earn her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. Her professional interests include clinical pathology due to her fascination of how illnesses can be fought at the cellular level.What Dr. Powers enjoys most about working at CBAH is the camaraderie among the staff. "Dr. Wald, Dr. Lezcano, and Dr. Oms are always willing to help out and give feedback on the more challenging cases," she says. "And our nursing staff is always willing to go the extra mile to help our patients." This commitment to teamwork guarantees all our patients receive the benefit of our collective expertise and are the recipients of the best veterinary medicine we can deliver.Dr. Powers is also passionate about animal rescue. She and her husband Bijit, an engineer and animal lover, share a family of rescued pets, including Brian, a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix; Cinnamon, a cat; and Oscar, a white rabbit.
