Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Smith was 14 years old, his beloved Newfoundland had an unfortunate encounter with a car. After the local veterinarian examined the dog and dispensed medication, he was able to promise young Dr. Smith that his pet would be okay. Dr. Smith considered this miraculous, and from that moment on, he knew he wanted to become a veterinarian himself. Dr. Smith grew up in Chicago with six brothers and sisters. He attended Purdue University for both his undergraduate and veterinary schooling, then worked in the Chicago area after graduation before starting his own horse clinic. A few years later, he relocated to Florida for work in Fort Lauderdale, then moved to this area and purchased Hobe Sound Veterinary Clinic in 1980. Dr. Smith is now an enthusiastic staff veterinarian and has a special passion for surgery. Hes also fond of working alongside his fellow staff members, many of whom he considers family. Most of all, Dr. Smith loves his clients; he knows the majority of them as friends and neighbors, and some have even been with him for his entire 35 years here in Hobe Sound.Dr. Smith and his wife have three grown sons and four terrific grandchildren. They share their home with Lily, a very intelligent miniature poodle. When he isnt spending time with his family or caring for the pets of Hobe Sound here at the hospital, Dr. Smith enjoys reading, shooting firearms, and playing golf. Hes been an avid golfer since high school, and has played many of the nations great courses and even shot two holes-in-one.
