Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Lewis was born and raised in Arizona, where he grew up knowing he wanted to be a veterinarian since the second grade of elementary school. After graduating from Arizona State University and marrying his high school sweetheart, Dr. Lewis attended Colorado State University where he earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1986. He worked at Mesa Veterinary Hospital for two years before starting his residency in dermatology. In 1991 Dr. Lewis finished his residency and achieved his diplomate certification from the American College of Veterinary Dermatology. In 1991, Dr. Lewis founded the Dermatology Clinic for Animals (later Dermatology for Animals) with offices in Mesa and Tucson, Ariz., as well as in Albuquerque, NM. Within three years clinics were added in Utah, Texas and Nebraska. It was the first time most residents of these areas had access to board-certified veterinary dermatologists that could treat their afflicted pets. Dr. Lewis' principle interests include investigating the role of allergies and the effect they have on the skin. Dr. Lewis has written journal articles and supported research on a number of projects during his career. He is frequently invited to lecture at veterinary continuing education meetings around the country and is always eager to share the insight he has gained. When not at the hospital, Dr. Lewis enjoys being outdoors. He is a birding enthusiast, and enjoys sailing, hiking and camping. He sings in his church choir and in the Sonoran Desert Chorale. He has performed with the Chorale in famous cathedrals throughout Italy, Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.
