Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Pat McKeever enjoyed an invigorating childhood on a remote island bordering Minnesota and Canada, on scenic Lake of the Woods, becoming an avid fisherman and feeling drawn to a career involving animals. He obtained his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Minnesota in 1968, followed by an internship and a master's degree in cardiovascular surgery from Washington State University in 1970. He became a board-certified Diplomate with the American College of Veterinary Dermatology in 1986. In 1971, after a year in a large and small animal practice in Kenora, Ontario, Dr. McKeever returned to the University of Minnesota and established the Veterinary Dermatology program. With no training programs available for Veterinary Dermatologists at that time, he trained with residents of the Department of Dermatology in the Medical School. He served as primary professor of Veterinary Dermatology for 27 years, until 1998. He was primary advisor for two Doctorate and twelve Master of Science candidates, and mentor and advisor for nine dermatology residents. In 1994 he established McKeever Dermatology Clinics in the Minneapolis-St Paul area. Dr. McKeever has authored 24 journal articles, eight book chapters and one book, Skin Diseases of the Dog and Cat, translated into five languages. Enthusiastic for life's next adventure, Dr. McKeever moved to North Scottsdale with his wife and cat and joined Dermatology for Animals in February 2016. Dr. McKeever has a great love for helping owners to alleviate discomfort and disfigurement associated with skin disease of their pets. His leisure interests include travel, reading, mentoring, church activities, and exploring their new home state
