Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Rachel Rowen earned her undergraduate degree from UC Berkeley in 2004. She then went on to veterinary school at UC Davis, graduating in 2008. After veterinary school, she completed a one year internship at Ohio State University where she worked with emergency and urgent care cases and supervised senior veterinary students. During veterinary school she spent a summer in Barcelona, Spain as a surgery extern. There she assisted surgeons in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery and also became proficient in Spanish. In August 2009 she relocated to the Bay Area and joined Sunnyvale Veterinary Clinic. In September 2014 she earned her CCRT: Certified Canine Rehabilitation Therapist. This certification took over 1 year to complete. Through the Canine Rehabilitation Institute, she traveled to Colorado and Florida to two of the largest animal rehabilitation centers in the country for over 100 hours of continuing education focused on clinically relevant anatomy, biomechanics, and pathophysiology of common orthopedic and neurologic disorders and hands-on training in physical therapy assessment and treatment planning, manual therapy and soft tissue techniques, therapeutic modalities (such as laser, ultrasound, TENS, PEMF), therapeutic exercise, and hydrotherapy. This training was followed by 3 stages of examination and an internship at the UC Davis Integrative Medicine department. Dr. Rowen works with dogs, cats, rabbits, and small mammals. When she is not working, Dr. Rowen enjoys hula dancing, SCUBA diving, sea kayaking, hiking, cooking, and spending time with her husband and daughter, her Pomeranian Puccini and her two cats.
