Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Karen Perry is a Southern California native who has always had a passion for nature and animals. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California Davis in Wildlife and Fisheries Biology and then went on to veterinary school planning to become a wildlife veterinarian. However, by senior year in veterinary school she realized how much she liked the hands on interaction with cats and dogs and really enjoyed the aspect of being the medical detective for animals that can't speak. She decided at that point to fully focus her talent on the practice of veterinary medicine for cats and dogs. After veterinary school she completed an internship with The Sacramento Animal Medical Group, and did rotations in internal medicine, surgery, ophthalmology, emergency medicine and general practice. Dr. Perry moved to San Diego in 1995 and practiced in Escondido for 4 years before starting with Advanced Care Veterinary Hospital where she has been since 1999. In 1999, she further distinguished herself when she earned her diplomate status from the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Canine and Feline Practice. Her special interests are internal medicine, geriatric patient care and ophthalmology. It has always been her goal to develop lasting relationships with her clients, provide the highest quality medicine and work to give the patients she cares for the longest and healthiest life possible. She loves working with people who are as passionate about their pets and their quality of life as she is Dr. Perry is a member of the AVMA, CVMA, and SDCVMA. In her spare time, Dr. Perry enjoys hiking, camping, nature, and spending time with her two daughters, pets, and husband (Dr.Y who recently retired from Advanced Care)
