Veterinarian Overview
I grew up in rural Ohio on 6 acres of undeveloped land. I saw snakes, spiders, deer, raccoons, muskrat, on a daily basis. I spent all of my free time outside observing animals. I had ducks, chickens, dogs, cats, parakeets and many other pets. I graduated from Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in zoology . I applied for Veterinary School, but was not accepted. No matter what, I was going to have a career working with animals. I received a Bachelor of Arts from The Exotic School of management and training from Moorpark College. I trained rats, chickens, wild pigs, and a lion. Exotic animals became a passion. I began working in the circus after school. I raised and trained tigers. We had about 65 gold and white tigers, several elephants, a lion, and several bears. I worked closely with the veterinarian. I applied to Ohio State Veterinary school again and was accepted. I worked at the circus compound during my summers. I worked one year in New York at a veterinary hospital that also treated rescued wildlife such as birds, turtles, Eagles, deer , opossums, raccoons, etc. I then worked at several veterinary hospitals for about 20 years. Ive worked with dogs, cats, birds and many exotics. I am currently working at Center-Sinai Animal Hospital examining and treating birds dogs, cats, reptiles, guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, etc. NOTE: If you simply have a question about an avian pet, for example about your pet birds basic health care, or beak, claws, feathers, diet, or anything else, please visit our article on basic bird health care facts.
