Veterinarian Overview
Like many young children, Dr. Stegeman dreamed of being a veterinarian, and growing up in the country provided ample experiences with wildlife and strays to further that interest. At one point, she cared for 52 pets, with not a single dog or cat in the mix.While an undergraduate, Dr. Stegeman majored in Spanish and received an early admission to veterinary school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She received her DVM in 1995 and graduated at the top of her class. After working in a small animal/exotics practice, and then for a 24-hour emergency referral center, Dr. Stegeman completed her residency in small animal internal medicine at Michigan State University in 2003.Dr. Stegemans interests include endocrinology, infectious diseases, gastroenterology, feline medicine, and minimally invasive diagnostics (ultrasound, endoscopy and fluoroscopy). Through continuing education efforts, she recently became proficient in the placement and management of tracheal stents. In the future, Dr. Stegemans goal is to become trained in utilizing contrast harmonic ultrasound, which is currently limited to investigational research studiesDr. Stegemans reputation is one of a thorough diagnostician who offers dependable, comprehensive care for her patients and their families. As a member of the Association of Feline Practitioners, Dr. Stegeman is the expert at SCVSH on the special needs of the feline patient.
