Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Rebecca Diaz, owner of The Cat Clinic in Cathedral City, California. Dr. Diazs past includes work as a marketing manager and media buyer for J. Walter Thompson, one of the largest advertising agencies in the United States, and at the Haworth Group, a marketing and media agency headquartered in Minneapolis. Although her first degree was in geography, with time spent as a marketing executive, she always knew her true passion was to enter the field of medicine. It was when she became avidly involved with a humane society in Guam in the early 90s that Dr. Diaz decided she wanted to pursue a career as a veterinarian. In Guam, she realized how hard it was to find quality veterinary services. Her long time love of science and medicine plus her experience as an animal advocate with the humane society, naturally led her to pursuing a career in veterinary medicine. Dr. Diaz began preparing for veterinary school by attending the University of Guam, followed by a summer at the University of Santa Cruz. Dr. Diaz completed her pre-requisite studies at Sacramento State, and shortly thereafter was excited to have been accepted at several veterinary programs. Dr. Diaz chose to attend UC Davis starting in 1995 and she obtained her Veterinary Degree in 1999, graduating with honors. It was at Isla Veterinary Clinic in Guam, Dr Diazs first clinic, where she cultivated her strong passion and commitment to promoting humane treatment of animals, particularly by helping with pet over-population. Dr. Diaz began a spay/neuter weekend event, and in her first weekend spayed and neutered approximately 100 animals. The next year, with help of the Humane Society of the United States, she and two other veterinarians spayed and neutered approximately 400 animals in one week. Those numbers quickly grew to between 600 and 700 animals over 5 day period for the next 8 years. With the help of The Humane Society of the United States, Dr. Diaz has traveled the world to help with over population problems. She has taught spay and neuter techniques to veterinary students in El Salvador. She has also been involved with Spay Panama and Animals Lebanon where she has focused on pediatric spay/neuters.
