Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Voss was born and raised in Fort Collins, CO and knew at an young age that he was going to be a horse doctor. Growing up in and around Colorado State Universitys Veterinary Teaching Hospital where his father, Dr. James L. Voss (clinician, researcher and dean for 44 years) taught, was an early inspiration and source of invaluable experience. After earning a bachelors degree in biology from Colorado State University, Dr. Voss attended Kansas State Universitys College of Veterinary Medicine where he graduated cum laude - earning a doctorate in veterinary medicine and surgery.Returning to Colorado after graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Voss was hired at Littleton Large Animal Hospital where under the supervision of lameness and surgery experts, he completed a formal post-doctoral internship in lameness and surgery. During this time period Dr. Voss authored several articles such as Heel Pain, Is It Navicular Disease?.Following his internship, Dr Voss was offered a residency position in large animal internal medicine at the University of California at Davis. Advanced imaging, lameness/sports medicine and internal medicine training during this period under world class clinicians led to Dr. Voss being board certified in large animal internal medicine (Diplomate of the ACVIM) and brought him to Arizona Equine.Over the past eighteen years at Arizona Equine, Dr. Voss has established himself as an expert in the fields of internal medicine and lameness. Dr. Voss has authored numerous book chapters, scientific publications and lectures periodically to the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, American Association of Equine Practitioners, Arizona Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association, and others. Dr. Voss was on the AAEP board that first developed vaccination guidelines for horses and has served as an advisor to the grant review committee for the Grayson Jockey Club .Currently, Dr. Voss has special interest and expertise in medical imaging (MRI, Nuclear Scintigraphy, Ultrasound, Video endoscopy and Radiography) and sports medicine (lameness, joint therapies, diagnostic techniques) as well as overseeing the internal medicine specialty (neurology, cardiology, infectious disease, cancer, foal care/neonatology, endocrinology, etc,) at Arizona Equine.
