Veterinarian Overview
Dr. P.J. Koehnes parents performed wildlife rehabilitation when she and her siblings were growing up, and Dr. Koehne loved watching animals heal and be successfully released back into nature. Shes had a passion for animal care ever since she was young, and she wanted a dynamic career in which she could continue to grow. For Dr. Koehne, veterinary medicine was always the perfect choice! Dr. Koehne grew up in the Houston area, where she began showing horses at the ripe age of eight. After high school, she trained horses for two years before starting her undergraduate education at Blinn College in Brenham. Next, she transferred to Texas A&M University to study biomedical science, then gained acceptance to the Universitys College of Veterinary Medicine after completing her undergraduate studies. Dr. Koehne was married midway through her junior year of veterinary school, then graduated with her Doctorate in May of 2016.Dr. Koehne first met Dr. Hicks at an interview session sponsored by Texas A&M University. A mere two days later, she was offered a job! Dr. Koehne started here at Fairfield Animal Hospital in early June of 2016, and couldnt be happier to begin her private-practice career alongside the hospitals caring and compassionate family.Dr. Koehne lives in Brenham with her husband, who works for the towns Parks and Recreation Department, and several pets. They have a Labrador retriever named Tacy; Alf the search-and-rescue-trained bloodhound; two Boer goats named Laverne and Shirley; and five horses who go by Sonny, Sport, Honey, Copper, and Pinache. In her time away from work, Dr. Koehne enjoys crafting, spending time outdoors, watching old-time movies, and trying her hand at the violin. She also hopes to pick up horseback riding again in the near future.
