Veterinarian Overview
In 2016, Dr. James Darden joined the Animal Medical Center of Cypress as the Medical Director. Dr. Darden graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Animal Science his from Prairie View A&M University in 2001 and completed his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2007. Following veterinary school, Dr. Darden continued his education by completing an equine medicine and surgery internship at a private specialty hospital in Weatherford, Texas. Being a native Houstonian, Dr. Darden was very excited to return home after a few years of practice in North Texas. Prior to joining the Animal Medical Center-Cypress medical team, he provided medical guidance, leadership and surgical support for a large group of veterinary hospitals in the Houston metroplex. His passions include teaching and training perspective veterinarian students and recent graduates, how to providing exceptional service to every client and every patient. Dr. Darden has served as the professional liaison for Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine and the Colleges of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, and has been a frequent lecturer on leadership skills and veterinary practice. Dr. Darden's clinical interests include preventive care, dermatology, dentistry, internal medicine, orthopedics, and working with rescue organizations. His patients range from hamsters, guinea pigs, pot belly pigs, goats, alpacas, and cattle. He holds professional memberships in the Harris County Veterinary Medical Association, Montgomery County Veterinary Medical Association, Texas Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Darden and his wife, Brandy, have a toddler (Evan), an 11yr-old American Staffordshire Terrier (Tank), a horse named Goldie and a donkey named Francis. Away from work, Dr. Darden enjoys quality time with family and friends, cooking, fishing and being outdoors in the piney woods of East Texas.
