Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Elaine Caplan received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology at the University of Texas in Austin, TX. In 1981, she obtained her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University. Dr. Caplan performed her Internship and Residency at The Animal Medical Center NYC and completed her Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Illinois. Dr. Caplan is certified in Veterinary Acupuncture and Chiropractic.She founded Capital Area Veterinary Specialists and Texas Veterinary Oncology in Austin Texas in April of 2002. She has a special interest in surgical oncology with research in pain management. Other surgeries performed include Orthopedic, Neurological, and Soft Tissue.She is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. Other professional organizations she belongs to are the Veterinary Cancer Society, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Texas Veterinary Medical Association, the Capital Area Veterinary Medical Association, and the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. Dr. Caplan was honored by the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practice with the Clinical Referral Consultation Award (2010). She received the TVMA Specialty Practitioner of the Year Award (2012) and she was designated ACVS Founding Fellow in Surgical Oncology (2012). She was elected on executive board of Veterinary Cancer Society (2013-2015).In her free time, Dr. Caplan enjoys running, traveling, and spending time with family, friends, and her two dogs Morgan and Obi Juan.
