Veterinarian Overview

“I met Dr. Ron at an emergency clinic we both worked at several years ago. I was always impressed with her professionalism and gentle handling of families experiencing trauma related to the illness of a pet. Her seamless acclimation has been brilliant for our team and the community, and her empathetic and kind nature is truly refreshing.” – Dr. Christie Cornelius, founder of Senior Paws & Last Wishes Dr. Laura Ron was born and raised in the suburbs of Houston. According to her family, she was drawn to animals and fascinated by science ever since she first learned to walk/read/talk, so no one was surprised when she started talking about becoming a veterinarian. Dr. Ron spent eight years in College Station, TX, where she graduated from Texas A&M University twice: first with her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology (minor in Animal Science) in May 2011, and then with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in May 2015. She graduated with both University and Foundation Honors from undergraduate school and was the recipient of multiple scholarships while in veterinary medical school. Dr. Ron has always been a person who believes in getting a wide variety of experiences, so she spent her educational years not just studying, but also learning in other ways. She started working/shadowing in veterinary emergency/ICU in 2008, and kept up with it all through school. She also did a thesis on bioaquatics for the Texas A&M Biology department, raised fawns and corralled ostriches for the Texas A&M Wildlife Center, was a member of many student organizations, and helped with spays/neuters in underserved areas of Costa Rica one summer. Outside of veterinary medicine, she was a musician/vocalist and choir director all through college, volunteered as a health counselor for several years, and helped design graphic art projects for multiple clubs at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating from veterinary medical school, Dr. Ron spent her first three years as an emergency/ICU veterinarian, working around the clock for Houston’s pets. Starting in June 2018, she transitioned over to relief work (independent contracting), so she could keep doing emergency/ICU shifts, but also get to help other veterinarians and clinics around Houston. Dr. Ron has always had a soft spot for older pets as well as end-of-life care and therefore loves getting the chance to work with the Last Wishes family. When she is not at work, you can find her spending time with her family (including her rescued Border Collie Bright), making/performing music, traveling, and undertaking large cooking and/or “do-it-yourself” projects.
