Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Martin was born in Fort Valley, Georgia and grew up with animals. His first pet "Popeye" was a sheperd mix that let the chickens ride on his back. He has traveled from California to North Carolina, moving frequently since his father was a civil engineer for the Navy. Dr. Martin attended NCSU and completed his undergraduate courses in 3 years, including a summer spent at Oxford University,England. Another undergraduate internship was with the Toxicology department of the Center for Disease Control. Dr. Martin then attended the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1982. His first practice was in Nashville, GA and was a mixed practice. During that time, he also did health inspections at two horse auctions weekly. Dr. Martin moved to Atlanta to help a classmate with his equine practice noticing that there were dogs and cats at every farm. This led him to start a small animal house call practice with the same client base. The house call practice gave him the opportunity to see many animals that would otherwise not be seen due to being fearful or not traveling well. There were also many exotics that he got to treat including kangaroos, snakes, pigs, and monkeys. When traffic in Atlanta made the house call practice impossible, he moved to Beaufort, SC and worked at the Animal Hospital of Beaufort. While caring for his parents before their passing, Dr. Martin worked in Hilton Head and Sumter. He has now relocated to Loris and is excited to be a part of Meadowlawn Animal Services. Dr. Martin's hobbies include gardening, weightlifting, mushroom cultivating, and horseback riding. He loves all animals and and knows that cats are special, dogs are loyal, and horses are family members.
