Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Horwitz was born and raised in the Philadelphia area. He attended Penn State University and went on to complete his studies to become a veterinarian at the University of Pennsylvania. Immediately following veterinary school Dr. Horwitz joined the United States Army. He worked at the United States Army Chemical Center where he became the Officer-in-Charge of the veterinary clinic. Dr. Horwitz then saw active duty in Vietnam where he worked with the United States Navy Preventative Medicine Unit in Da Nang. Here he was the Officer-In-Charge of the Rabies Diagnostic Laboratory. Dr. Horwitz was honorably discharged from the Army in 1970 having obtained the rank of Captain.After the Army, Dr. Horwitz went back to veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania to complete his Post-Doctoral work in Clinical and Research Dermatology. Once completed, Dr. Horwitz first started working at Colonial Animal Hospital in Newtown Square, Pennsylvania. By 1972, Dr. Horwitz decided to open his own veterinary hospital. This hospital, attached to his home in Fort Washington, became the Fort Washington Veterinary Hospital. From 1972 until 2005, Dr. Horwitz was the owner of the Fort Washington Veterinary Hospital. In July of 2000, he moved the hospital from his home to our current location on Pinetown Road.During this time Dr. Horwitz married his wife, Susan, and together they have two children and two grandchildren. Dr. Horwitz has continued to be very active in the community and is an avid exercise fan. In what little spare time he can find, he loves to read, spend time with his grandchildren, travel (he has even been back to Vietnam), and eat at every restaurant located in the Philadelphia area.
