Veterinarian Overview

Dr. Henderson graduated from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell in 1994 after under graduate studies at SUNY Geneseo. Following graduation from veterinary school, she studied Equine Pathology under Dr. King for an intensive three month externship at Cornell. Upon completion of her externship she began working in the Catskill Mountains with Dr. Jon Davis at his Ouleout Valley Veterinary Clinic and Milfer farms, the former home of the late Spectacular Bid. Missing the Genesee Valley of her Alma mater, she returned to foxhunt and build up a client base. Bonny worked for Perry Veterinary Clinic for 5 years before eventually hanging out her shingle in 2000 with the opening of Henderson Equine Clinic. Shortly after which she stood Nekoda Blue, a direct descendant of Dr. O’Dea’s’ stallion Favorable Path. She bred him to thoroughbred and Belgian mares to raise and train foxhunters and eventers. Dr. Henderson’s’ strong interest in irresolvable lamenesses originating ‘high up’, above the shoulders or stifles led her to get her IVCA chiropractic certification in 2006. The results of her chiropractic treatments did address and resolve many of those ‘high lamenesses’ but the full restoration of normal motion was not always achieved. In order to address the remaining performance issues Dr. Henderson added her Chi acupuncture certification in 2012. Her goal to help enable horses to sustain their performance at their peak ability led her to add the adjunct modalities of Kinesiology taping, class IV K- laser, Theraplate, and Shockwave. This progression and its resultant improvement in horses performance has been very gratifying to her In addition, Dr. Henderson undertook the writing of her own book "Equine Health and Emergency Management" in order to help owners manage their horses’ health care; prepare for disasters; and prevent, triage, and manage emergency citations until the veterinarian can get on site. The results of the printing have been rewarding to her but when describing a day in her professional life, Dr. Henderson says about her alternative treatments "What else can you do and have the horse hug and thank you when you are done?" In her spare time Dr. Henderson enjoys riding. Her passion is foxhunting with the Genesee Valley Hunt and competing in the longest continuously running cross country steeplechase in America, the Genesee Valley Hunt Point- to -Point, which she has won twice. Some of her quieter hobbies include hiking through God's creation with her dogs, biking, and skiing. However, equine reproduction has never fully left her blood and she is very pleased to have, in conjunction with Dr. Dewar and Dr. Schweizer, DVM Diplomate ACT, just opened Henderson Equine Clinics breeding shed for training and collecting stallions.
