Veterinarian Overview

Dr. Amy E. Leach, DVM is originally from Lockport, NY, where her parents still reside. She attended SUNY Buffalo for undergraduate degrees in Psychology and Biological Sciences with a Pre-Medical concentration, graduating Magna cum laude in 2000. While enrolled Dr. Leach studied at Roswell Park Cancer Institute researching treatment for ovarian cancer. She also spent her summers working at Los Alamos National Laboratory in Bioinformatics researching the genomes of various human sexually transmitted pathogens. In May, 2004, Dr. Leach was conferred the Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine by Cornell University's College of Veterinary Medicine. After graduation, she donated time as a Surgical Extern at Lollypop Farms Humane Shelter in Rochester, NY, in the summer of 2004. She then practiced as a small animal veterinarian in Amherst, NY for 6 years. After a 2 year stint in Orchard Park, NY, Dr. Leach came to join our team at Town & Country Animal Clinic in 2012. As a member of their board since 2011, Dr. Leach has helped Rootie's Run, the Hamburg Dog Park, get its feet on the ground as one of the few approved and totally fenced dog parks in the Buffalo area. From 2005 to 2010, Dr. Leach served on the Board of Directors of the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society. As a part of that organization, she was the Chairperson and Organizer of The Mini Vet School, held in conjunction with UB's School of Biomedical Sciences. In addition, Dr. Leach received the Young Leadership Award from the WNY Veterinary Medical Association in November, 2007, for her involvement in varied local veterinary events. She is also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Veterinary Information Network, the American Veterinary Dental Society, and the Buffalo Academy of Veterinary Medicine continuing education program. She has attended the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Conference and the American Veterinary Dental Forum nearly every year for the past 8 years. Her particular areas of interest are dentistry, anesthesia, internal medicine, and pain management. Dr. Leach and her husband, Richard, married in 2004. They have a beautiful little girl named Talbot, called Tali, and a little boy named Ryce. Dr. Leach and her family share their home with a Chihuahua mix named Haben & an orange tabby cat named Joey. As a family, they enjoy traveling to sunny destinations and spending as much time together as possible reading books, swimming, and playing games.
