Veterinarian Overview

I named my practice "Shay Shay". It means "Thank You" in Chinese, in memory of my soul-mate and inspiration for my life's work in acupuncture - my beautiful Chow Chow, Hayle. In older age, while still happy and healthy in every other way, Hayle developed hind-end weakness. The surgeon and neurologist said there was nothing they could do. Knowing that acupuncture strengthens the body's natural ability to heal and stay strong, I took her to a veterinary acupuncturist. We treasured another year of quality of life and long walks together until I hugged her on the floor of our home as she passed on peacefully. I enrolled in the next acupuncture class available so I could help other beloved pets. A life-long bond, compassion for and respect of elderly humans and pet family members has nurtured a passion in me for aging pets. As pets age their needs change. It is best for for our pets and us, their pet parents, to make an informed, personalized plan. Throughout my career I have seen the desire of many families to spend just a little more time with their beloved pet. Sometimes it is best to provide veterinary guided holistic in-home care. Palliative and Hospice care maybe a good choice for you and your pet. Sometimes a pet maybe so ill that the best decision is peacful euthanasia. I have always felt a conviction to help a pet's passing be as dignified and compassionate as possible. I believe this is the last loving gift we give our beloved pets. Dr. Dixon was born and raised in Pennsylvania. She currently lives with her furry children who were all adopted: Pekingnese Jazz-z, Pomeranian Maeja, Golden-Chow mix Larkin, Border Collie-Springer Spaniel Oakley and Sulcatta tortoise Sammy.
