Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Christopher Bourgeois was born and raised in New Orleans and from a young age wanted to be a veterinarian. By the time he entered high school his experience at handling and caring for animals extended to: dogs, cats, horses, birds, rabbits, mice, fish, snakes and an alligator.He graduated from Coast Episcopal High School in 1980, and then went on to earn an Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from Mississippi State University. Dr. Bourgeois accepted an engineering position at the Stennis Space Center on the Space Shuttle Program. He continued his space program career at the Michoud Assembly Facility where he excelled at materials engineering, project planning, leadership, and communications. Hard work, dedication, and a commitment to excellence earned him the Principal Engineers position for the thermal protection systems on the Space Shuttle External Tank Program.From 1997 to 2010 Dr. Bourgeois volunteered his free time to the Greyhound Rescue. When the Space Shuttle program came to an end, Dr. Bourgeois refocused on his childhood dream by earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Louisiana State Universitys School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015.Dr. Bourgeois is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association and the Florida Parishes Veterinary Medical Association. His professional interests include dentistry, dermatology, surgical procedures and diagnostic imaging. He joined Bayou Animal Clinic in October 2015.When not working at the hospital, Dr. Bourgeois enjoys aviation, fishing, hunting and spending time with his three dogs.
