Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Kirk grew up near Liberty, Kansas and graduated from high school in Coffeyville. He attended Kansas State University and graduated with a B.S. and Doctorate of veterinary medicine. After graduation, he started a practice in Neodesha, Kansas and later in Cherryvale, Kansas. After selling the practices, he moved to an ophthalmology practice in Denver, Colorado. He was there for six months before buying into an animal hospital in Reseda, California. The hospital, McClave Veterinary Hospital, was rebuilt and awarded a national award for design and construction in 1977. While at McClave Veterinary Hospital, the practice grew from a three-man practice with six employees to a seven doctor practice with twenty-nine employees. He sold interest in the practice in 1980. McClave Animal Hospital is now home to thirteen veterinarians and houses a staff of over ninety. In 1981, Dr. Kirk opened a new practice in Santa Paula, California and ran it until 1985 when he opened a new practice in Oak View, California. From 1985 to 2004 he built and moved two other facilities in the Oak View area. While in California, Dr. Kirk served as the president of the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association and was chairman of the California Veterinary Medical Association Board of Delegates. He is a life-time member of the American Veterinary Medical Association. He is also an associate member of the American Animal Hospital Association and a member of the Kansas Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Kirk has also been active in many non-profit animal associations.
