Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Tanya Battiston graduated Cum Laude from the University of Rhode Island in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science and Technology. During her undergraduate studies she gained experience as a veterinary technician in a small animal hospital. She worked as a caretaker both on a large duck farm and a dairy goat farm. She was an active philanthropic member in her sorority, and a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, The National Honor Society, and Order of Omega. Upon graduation, she received the "University of Rhode Island Award for Academic Excellence" in Animal Science, College of Resource Development. Dr. Battiston attended Kansas State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. She was consistently recognized on the Dean's Honor list, and was elected into the Society of Phi Zeta, the Veterinary Medical Honor Society. She worked in Dr. Michael Dryden's parasitology research laboratory while a veterinary student at Kansas State, supervising field studies involving efficacy of flea preventatives, including Frontline and Program. She received extended and specialized externship training in ophthalmology with Dr. Ken Abrams in 1997. Ophthalmology continues to be a special interest for her.
