Veterinarian Overview
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Dean Filipowicz has joined us as our in-house Board Certified Surgeon.Originally from outside Annapolis, Maryland, Dean received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania in 1993. After college he traded commodities for several years in New York. When he realized his passion for veterinary medicine, he worked several veterinary-related jobs in Cambridge, MA. Later, Dean moved to California and earned his D.V.M. degree from The University of California at Davis in 2004. He completed a rotating internship in medicine and surgery at the Virginia Medical Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, where he also completed his residency in small animal surgery and received his M.A. in veterinary sciences. Dean completed his Surgery Residency in 2008.Dean is published in several veterinary journals and other professional publications. His research primarily investigates a novel type of orthopedic fixation. Deans special interests include fracture management, trauma, skin and reconstructive surgery, and minimally invasive surgery. Dean can perform any soft tissue and orthopedic surgery needed including back surgery; he will travel to any of our hospitals to perform surgery. For surgeries where an overnight stay in recommended, it would be best to schedule surgery at San Carlos Pet Hospital where we offer 24-hour care; remember we offer patient transportation.Dean is committed to aggressive pain management and making sure your pet is as comfortable as possible before, during and after the surgical procedure.When not at work, Dean can be found enjoying all outdoor physical activities with his dogs, Eli and Sadie
