Veterinarian Overview
A specialist in alternative veterinary therapies, Dr. Heller is the driving force behind San Clemente Veterinary Hospitals holistic medicine offerings, incorporating conventional therapies, acupuncture and herbal remedies to treat her companion animal patients.Upon graduating from Ross University College of Veterinary Medicine and completing clinical work at the University of Minnesota in 2002, Dr. Heller practiced small and exotic animal medicine and surgery in both emergency and general practice settings. Next, Dr. Heller worked as a Consulting Veterinarian in Clinical Toxicology at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center in Urbana, Illinois. While at Animal Poison Control, Dr. Heller authored two articles for publication including a Toxicology Brief: Metformin Overdose in Dogs and Cats and Decontamination of the Poisoned Pet for Clinicians Brief.In 2006, Dr. Heller, her husband (a veterinary oncologist) and their two children relocated back to her native California where she practiced in Santa Barbara and in Mission Viejo. Shortly thereafter in August 2009 she joined San Clemente Vet as a part-time associate.Dr. Heller completed acupuncture training and became certified through the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) in March of 2009. She is also a member of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncturists. Dr. Hellers professional interests include integrating evolutionary based nutrition with Eastern and Western medicine to widen the scope of treatment options for her animal patients.
